Return to Book Band home page here.
Red book banded books require children to know around 20-30 high frequency words. They will have simple sentences or short phrases and children will need to practise their developing phonic knowledge of phase 2 phonics to help them decode and read the book.
Using the free downloadable sound mat below for phase 2 to ‘warm up the sounds’ that children know before reading a book and supporting them to find sounds whilst reading will help to develop reading skills.

Books for Book Bands
Sharing any book is perfect and when enjoying together you really don’t need to worry about reading level. However, if you child wants to practise their developing reading skills with other books (not just the book banded ones they bring home from school) then these books are suitable for children working within this level.
