We don’t have a ‘playroom’ in our house. We feel it’s important to have Floss’s toys in each place in our home, so that each space feels like her space too and that we co-exist together rather than separately. She really enjoys the freedom of being able to go wherever she wants, when she wants and take whichever toy she’d like with her.

This mini shelf/ house is from Ikea and a great idea for storage, but also doubling as a small world setting. I’ve done a close up below of the items in each spot and where they are from.

What’s on the Shelf?

Top left has the Ocamora Tenique Stacking Gems, they are so yummy. Lovingly, handmade in Spain we purchased them from Yesbebe.co.uk and are so pleased with them. They’re a great mindfulness game for adults too – highly addictive!

We don’t expect Floss to be able to use a calculator at 21 months, but the understanding that an action has a resulting consequence is a very satisfying, important concept to grasp. The till is from Ikea and perfect to help with this; pressing a button results in a symbol appearing on the screen. The little bears are Learning Resources counters. They come in three sizes and I’ve put out the larger size bears in all six colours. Floss has enjoyed naming the colours and using them as small world with the building blocks and Ocamora gems.

Bottom left are Lanka Kade building blocks that her Auntie L bought her for her first birthday. Previously, she had used these more for stacking and knocking over. Now that her play is developing they are being used to set up small world play; a bed for a bear or a feeding bowl for the sheep.

The Favourite Toy

The favourite item on this shelf right now is our first every Plan toy, the Lacing Sheep. I’d wanted something to extend her threading using conical towers and this sheep was the perfect thing. Smaller, to help develop her fine motor skills, a wobbly core that means she has to secure it in place before threading and the use of colours to match the body parts up in the right order. A great challenge and a really satisfying finished product; a SUPER cute sheep! What’s your little one’s favourite toy?
