We love Admar’s books, especially Sam and the Gnome’s Red Hat. It’s a gem of a story. Sam and the Gnome’s Red Hat is a beautiful story of friendship and the pleasure of giving and receiving small, handmade gifts and treasures. This would make a lovely starting point for a handcraft project. We loved how you are left to initially guess who Sam’s best friend may be. My daughter Floss thought maybe a squirrel until she saw the whisp of red fabric and remembered the title and cover.
We were delighted when asked to review the latest release Pomme and the Pumpkins by Floris Books. It’s superb!
A Sprinkling of Magic
Lots of Floris fiction books have an educational, knowledge base; learning in a beautiful package. They’re always stunningly illustrated and have a wonderful sprinkling of magic to them.
Pomme and the Pumpkins Synopsis
Pomme and the Pumpkins tells the story of the life cycle of a pumpkin. The lifecycle is depicted through the main character Pomme’s eyes from ground to table and back again. This is a story which is gently told while exploring the wonders of nature as the seasons roll on.
Admar’s Pastel Illustrations
Admar uses pastels for her illustrations and this media gives such captivating texture and hues that have you wanting to feel each page!
Enchanting Character
The enchantment is found in a little character who appears to be helping Pomme nurture her pumpkins. Hidden from sight, yet we the reader can delight in spotting him undertaking his pumpkin ministrations.
A charming, heart-warming read that is sure to keep you feeling all toasty as Autumn tumbles in with its glut of pumpkins.
Learning Through Osmosis
My daughter Floss loves the story and hadn’t even realised how much she’d learnt about pumpkins until she’d got to the end. Learning at its best, through enjoyable osmosis!
