How to Create a Bunny Rabbit
What You Will Need
You can find lots of the iris folding resources that I use here.
- Pattern (free download below)
- Card or card blank with outline cut out – you can use a craft knife or cutting machine
- Blue tack
- Scissors
- Tape (best to be in a heavy tape dispenser that you can use with one hand)
- Paper (origami paper works well or use recycled materials – inside of envelopes/ used packaging materials)
- Sparkly card
- Fine liner/ pencil – googly eyes optional

What To Do
The pattern has an accompanying sheet which goes through exactly what you need to do to create your Bunny Rabbit. If you’re more of a visual learner you may find it easier to have a look at one of my YouTube videos on iris folding. Below you will find a slow, step by step tutorial on how to create your Bunny Rabbit.
Bunny Rabbit Specific Instructions
- There is a very small section on the bunny, the nose. This is number 10 – don’t forget it.
- The section of card between the ears and the body may need a little glue to hold it in place.
- Your bunny will need eyes and whiskers. You can draw these on with a fine liner, add googly eyes or use embellishments.
What Colours to Use on Your Iris Folding Bunny Rabbit
I’ve gone with a pink theme for my bunny but you can use any combination of colours. The bunny comes out lovey in blues too. I used four main colours and then a different colour for the nose and tail. For those two parts I used a little sparkly paper to bring the nose and tail to life.

Card Blank or Mounted?
It’s completely up to you whether you create your design on a separate piece of card and then mount it onto a card blank, or work directly onto the card blank itself.
Whichever option you choose, remember that you’ll need to cut out the reverse of the shape, as you’ll be working on the back of the design.
If you decide to work straight onto the card blank, adding a small paper insert inside the card will neatly hide your workings.
Top Tip for Iris Folding Paper
The type of paper you choose is important. Aim for paper that’s between 60–80gsm. This thinner paper is much easier to fold and helps prevent your finished card from becoming too bulky.
When searching for suitable paper, “origami paper” is a useful term to use. Just be sure to check the sheet size before purchasing, as origami paper can sometimes be quite small. I generally go for 6 inch square origami paper.

Key Iris Folding Resources

Packs of decorative cards and patterned papers are ideal for the centre of your iris folding designs. These can be thicker than the paper used for the rest of your design, as they don’t need to be folded.

Cutting Out Iris Folding Templates
When cutting out the Bunny Rabbit you can use a cutting machine or you can use a craft knife. Yes, the scan and cut is so much easier and quicker but it’s still simple enough to do with a craft knife and much cheaper.
