As a family we love giving and receiving books at Christmas. It’s the perfect time to gift any book, not just Christmas ones. However, we love to add to our Christmas collection of books. In our home Christmas books have a special day that they return to our bookshelves and it’s a BIG event in our home every 1st of December.

The Story Orchestra Series
One of our favourite series for gifting is The Story Orchestra. You can find more details about books in the series in our blog post here. They’re a delightful series and the perfect special gift for Christmas. Any of them would be perfect but we save The Nutcracker especially for Christmas.
Poetry Anthologies
There’s no better time to start reading a little poetry. Christmas time 2021 I decided to start a new ‘habit’ for the new year 2022. A habit to read at least one piece of poetry every day. It’s been a truly rewarding habit that I plan to continue. You don’t have to wait unit the new year – you can start the habit anytime. Gifting a poetry anthology may open up the wonderful world of poetry to the receiver.
As gifts I highly recommend the Nosy Crow anthologies. We have all three and adore them all. If you’re looking for more poetry recommendations you might like my blog post – New Year’s Resolutions and A Poem A Day.
I Am The Seed That Grew The Tree was the first in the series. It’s sumptuously illustrated and has a nature poem for each and every day of the year.
Following along in 2020 was the stunning release of Tiger, Tiger, Burning Bright! If you have an animal lover this is the collection for them; an animal poem for every day of the year.
2022 Nosy Crow released an incredible collection of poems by girls and women – And Everything Will Be Glad To See You. As with all of the collections I’d recommend them for anyone. This book is currently on a huge saving here (as of 9th December 2023).
Another book that I featured in Bookworm Buzz this year is Smile Out Loud. It’s a fabulous, vibrant collection of poems by Joseph Coelho. You can find my full review here.
Audio Player for Christmas – Tonie Box and Yoto Players
A little idea if you have an audio player such as a Tonie Box or Yoto Player is to get family and friends to record in messages to your little one for Christmas. They could even share a Christmas story.
Looking for a free little audio of a Christmas story with origins from Ukraine…check out this blog post.
If you want to know a little more about audio players you may find my blog post Tonie Box or Yoto Player? helpful.
A Christmas Book for the Soul
Gaspard’s Christmas by Zeb Soanes and James Mayhew – published by Graffeg. This is an incredible, powerful, raw book of the true meaning of Christmas spirit written sensitively for children. Just brilliant – do read my full review here.
An Illustrated Dream – The Girl of Ink & Stars
The Girl of Ink & Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave is a book that is on my wish list but I haven’t read it yet. I’ve heard so much about this title and lots of great reviews. I’m even more excited to see there is now a spectacularly illustrated version with images by Olia Muza. I love giving illustrated books as gifts.
Olia Muza is a Ukrainian national who fled Kyiv when Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022. Now in Romania, Olia completed the illustrations for the book digitally often struggling to get work done due to patchy or no existent internet and not having a fixed abode.
What an incredible feat Olia has accomplished in the face of such adversity. I must get a copy of this book. Just from the few images I have seen (some shared above) there is a rawness – a light versus dark feel. It’s right at the top of my wish list now. There’s also an exclusive bonus chapter too.
