Etsy Tween Gift Ideas: Top Arts and Craft Kit Picks

Etsy Tween Gift Ideas

Are you looking for the perfect gift for a tween in your life? In this blog post I will showcase some of my top arts and craft kit picks from Etsy.

Tween Present Picks

Buying gifts for the tween age bracket (around 8-12 years old) can be quite tricky. At this age children can become particularly aware of their age. They notice the age indicators on toys, games and arts and craft kits. Often tweens perceive that something may be ‘too simple’ if the age indication on the box says ‘suitable for 5+ years’. Many tweens want to feel grown up and gifts that show understanding of their increased abilities and concentrations levels are very welcomed. If you’re buying for a creative tween then purchasing arts and craft kits can be an excellent option.

Real Arts and Craft Materials

I’m a firm believer, when it comes to arts and crafts materials, that giving children ‘proper’ tools, media and materials is best practise. Showing children and tweens how to use and store their resources means they look after them. Therefore kits that appeal to tweens, with quality resources are what I look for when choosing the perfect present.

Etsy Discount Codes and Buying Tips

Below are my top tips to buying on Etsy. You’ll find more details about each of the points in the list below.

Top Esty Buying Tips

  • Check reviews
  • ‘Favourite’ 💗 items you like
  • ‘Follow’ shops you love
  • Add items you are interested in to your basket
  • Check for offer notifications before and after purchases
  • Message sellers for discount codes
  • Be friendly and kind

Before Purchase

I purchase quite frequently from Etsy. I always look at reviews that others have added. If you love an item or a shop then make sure to favourite the item and follow the shop. Etsy will notify you if a product you love or a shop has an offer start. Sellers can also send you personalised offers on their products if you’ve liked them.

If you add a product to your basket you may get a discount code if you don’t check out straight away. Therefore, try to get organised and add something to your basket and wait 24 hours to see if you get sent a discount code.

After Purchase

If I’ve been making a bulk purchase with a seller I have contacted them in advance to ask if they would consider giving me a discount code to use against the purchase. This method has been successful on numerous occasions.

Once you have purchased from a seller, some sellers will send you a thank you code which you can use on your next purchase with them.

Be Kind

My top tip is to always be friendly. The beauty of Etsy is that many of the sellers are just one person, often running a business from their home. Kindness goes a long way. Happy shopping!

As always, I would recommend adult supervision with activities and take care to ensure the items you are using are suitable for your child in both age and development. Specifically, with outdoors, I think it’s really important to make sure that you reassess risks before each time you allow access toys and resources. At a school I used to work in was next to a road and we always had to make sure that nothing had blown or been thrown in. It’s also good to consider how you will explain safety aspects such as some things being dangerous to eat in gardens and woods. The views expressed are my own.
