  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

Mushroom for Reading this Week? 🤣

Floss is on school holidays so reading habits change for us during this time. There’s often more reading but with much more choices coming from Floss during the day. We’ve been looking at mushroom books and particularly enjoying getting creative around all things shroom! I’ll be adding a little post about the mushroom study we’ve been doing soon but you can get a peep inside these gorgeous mushrooms books below.

Currently Reading

Zoe’s Rescue Zoo: The Messy Meerkat by Amelia Cobb and Sophy Williams

Zoe’s Rescue Zoo: The Messy Meerkat by Amelia Cobb and Sophy Williams. This is a series that we love. The great thing about series like this is that there is a comforting, formulaic predictability with the text that gives children more confidence when reading. We’re really enjoying the escapades of Max the Meerkat and family so far.

Floss and I have been working on an audio quiz that you can add to your audio player such as Yoto Player and Toniebox.

Stitched Fabric Brooches by Alex McQuade

By Alex McQuade, Stitched Fabric Brooches is a book that a dear friend has lent to me. I’m looking forward to trying out some of these projects and how to tweak them for those who don’t enjoy sewing for the arts and crafts group I volunteer at.

Just Finished Reading

A little mixture of titles completed this week and reviews will follow soon…

Bertha & Blink: Rumble in the Jungle by Nicola Colton

Bertha & Blink: Rumble in the Jungle by Nicola Colton published by Little Tiger Press. A brilliant new early chapter book that leaves you with a whopping cliff hanger ready for the next installment. Here’s my review. For more early chapter book recommendations check out this post.

The Library Mouse by Frances Tosdevin and Sophia O’Connor

The Library Mouse by Frances Tosdevin and Sophia O’Connor is the perfect book for all book lovers. It’s a story that makes you want to pick up a pen the moment you’ve finished it!

Nina Peanut is Amazing by Sarah Bowie

Nina Peanut is Amazing by Sarah Bowie. I’ve not quite finished this one yet but Floss has. She devoured it in minutes and then went off to write her own version. A great library book find and Floss is super keen to read book two: Nina Peanut: Mega Mystery Solver when it releases on the 26th September 2024.

Future Reading

We’ve got quite a few books on the TBR pile and we haven’t decided what order to read them in yet. I find my reading plans go out of the window during the holidays as Floss is a real mood reader. Definitely on my list to read this week is Rune. I’ve been meaning to read this one for a few weeks – now is its time!

Rune: The Tale of a Thousand Faces by Carlos Sánchez

Rune: The Tale of a Thousand Faces by Carlos Sánchez published by Flying Eye Books. I’ve been drawn to this one as the main protagonist is d/Deaf and I’m intrigued to work out how sign language is used in the book.

More Graphic Novels

Flower Macrame

I’ve finally cracked a new macrame pattern! I do find that even ‘real-time’ videos on YouTube are still a bit challenging for me as my hands and brain just can’t work quick enough. I might attempt to record a snails pace macrame video for those who want to learn very slowly like me!
