www Wednesday Books – Middle Grade and Picture Books plus Addison’s Disease Awareness

It’s W W W Wednesday. Wednesday book time! Hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words. You can find Sam’s post for this week here.

The Three Ws are:

  1. What are you currently reading?
  2. What did you recently finish reading?
  3. What do you think you’ll read next?

Bookish Staircase Update

Well I started back on www Wednesday last week and I’m starting to think it’s cursed. I’ve had a few health issues the last few days but I’m determined to get a post out! I’m cutting it fine for Wednesday…

The image above is some of the books that arrived in our house recently ready to read and review. The books range from library books, purchased and books sent by publishers, authors and illustrators. Opinions are always my own.

Addison’s Disabling Disease

If you want to find out more about my interesting end to last week I did a very out of character post on Instagram to raise awareness of Addison’s Disease. Addison’s Self Help Group is a great source of information and has a wealth of resources.

Anyway, let’s get on with my happy place…the books!

Currently Reading

Floss and I have just started reading Betty Steady and the Toad Witch by Nicky Smith-Dale. It’s rip-roaring fun and we’re romping through it – we’ll let you know what we think soon. Good combination of black and white images to text so ideal for early independent readers.

Monkey King and the World of Myths: The Monster and the Maze

Monkey King and the World of Myths: The Monster and the Maze by Maple Lam we absolutely should have finished by now but Floss has decided that Daddy would love it too so we’re having to hold off for him to be available – maybe tonight!

Just at the start of Ferris and it’s got all the makings of what I love in a story from Kate DiCamillo. I feel this one is going to be devoured!

Just Finished Reading

It’s a picture book feast this week as well as finishing the spectacular Greenwild. Middle grade is my happy place right now.

Cat Nap

Oh this is just the cutest book. We’re in double digits the amount of times we’ve read Cat Nap by Steve Antony in a morning. Delightfully, illustrated with so much heart. Simple text that’s perfect for little ones. It would be an ideal book for children who are just beginning to learn to read with their phonics and by using clues from illustrations.

Pink Trucks

Pink Trucks by Sam Clarke and Cory Reid challenges the ingrained stereotype that pink is for girls only. Stink loves pink and Stink loves trucks. So it’s not surprising that they want a pink truck. Stink goes about fixing this problem. Full review coming soon.

The Bumblebee Garden

The Bumblebee Garden is just as wonder-filled as I thought it would be. Yes, there’s the wonderous story of the life cycle of the bee but it’s encapsulated inside the sweetest story. Yet again Stella Lim breaths ethereal life into simple paper pages with her whimsical, jump out of the page, magical illustrations. A perfect book for World Bee Day in May.

Greenwild The World Behind the Door by Pari Thomson

This book was INCREDIBLE. Greenwild The World Behind the Door by Pari Thomson is a book that you don’t want to leave. Let me stay in the Greenwild and never leave. Magic, nature, friendship, lies and betrayal. It’s a must read. Full review coming soon.

Future Reading

I’m really excited by our future reading pile on the stairs. Floss has already decided what she wants at the top of the pile. Which would you choose to read first?

What’s Been on the Blog?

What I’ve spotted in the Blogsphere?

  • Toppsta have shared their favourite new children’s books for May here. Spotted a new Tom Palmer. They’re not normally a genre I’m drawn to but Tom’s writing is incredible and I love reading his eye-opening, thought-provoking books.
  • Bookread2day has totally sold me on this middle grade.
  • Girl On The Fly by Nansubuga Nagadya Isdahl has piqued my interest from the review on Books for Keeps. We’re a family of athletics fans so this calls to me.
