What You’ll Need

For this project I used 3mm macrame cord in three different colours:

  • Green cord (stem/ stalk) – 120cm
  • White cord (petals) – 140cm
  • Yellow cord (flower centre) – 60cm

You can use any colours you like, but if this is your first macrame flower, I recommend following the same colour arrangement as the tutorial. It makes it much easier to see which cords are doing what as you learn the pattern. After that you can go wild with any colour choices when you’re feeling confident.

You’ll also need:

Macrame Skills Used

This project is built around one of the most useful knots in macrame: the square knot.

At the start of the tutorial, I show how a half square knot becomes part of a full square knot pattern. If you’ve tried the spiral keychain project you will be very familiar with the half square knot. Once you’ve mastered this, you’ll find the same technique appears in many other macrame projects.

Vibrant rainbow coloured yarn skeins arranged in a row, perfect for colourful crafting projects.

The flower petals are then formed using loops and cord placement techniques that create the daisy shape around the yellow centre.

Why I Created a Super Slow Tutorial

One of the things I hear most often from those new to macrame is:

“The tutorial goes too fast!”

Many craft videos speed through sections that are obvious to experienced makers but confusing when you’re learning a new skill.

That’s why I created this video tutorial in a super slow format. Every movement is shown clearly, giving you plenty of time to follow along and compare your work with mine.

If you’ve struggled with macrame in the past, I hope this tutorial helps you build confidence one step at a time.

What Can You Make With Macrame Daisy Flowers?

Once you’ve learned the flower pattern, you can use it in lots of different projects, including:

  • Keyrings
  • Bag charms
  • Bookmarks
  • Wall hangings
  • Plant hanger decorations
  • Seasonal garlands
  • Gift toppers
  • Jewellery

Tips for Success

Work Slowly

Don’t worry about speed. Focus on understanding where each cord needs to go. Especially in this tutorial where cord placement is so important.

Compare Your Work Often

Use both the video and PDF photos to check that your cords are positioned correctly before tightening knots. You can always undo steps.

Keep Your Cords Untangled

Taking a moment to straighten cords between steps can make the flower much easier to form neatly.

Don’t Panic if It Looks Wrong

Macrame flowers often look a little messy halfway through. Keep following the steps and the daisy shape will gradually appear.

When I first learnt to create macrame flowers it took me a lot of goes to make them right. I’m hoping my tutorial will help you master the skill quicker than idea. However, if it takes you a little time (just like me) don’t worry.
