Voxblock for Adults
As technology continues to evolve, it often becomes more complex, leaving many older adults behind as well as those with additional needs and disabilities. Voxblock is a uniquely placed audio player that I feel there is a growing need for. This post will share a 20% off discount code with you if you do decide it’s the right player for your family.

There are a range of situations where I feel a Voxblock would be the perfect audiobook player. I will go through some examples here but this is not an exhaustive list and I’m sure you will think of other opportunities and situations. Feel free to add your thoughts in comments.

Continuing Favourite Hobbies
My late Nan loved books and like me thoroughly enjoyed reading good quality children’s books including middle grade and young adult (YA) fiction. Along with my Mom we share the incredible skill of being able to fit a ridiculous amount of books onto a bookshelf! However, sight issues run in our family with several members going blind. This meant that my Nan taught herself Braille in the hope to be able to always keep on reading. Alas, neuropathy gave her problems with her fingers too and she turned to audio cassettes to continue her love of stories. Being able to continue hobbies is so important for wellbeing!

Screen Free Isn’t Always Tech Free!
Nowadays it’s just not as simple as it used to be to listen to audio content. You often need access to the internet and the use of apps. Voxblock is the perfect audiobook player for anyone who doesn’t have an internet connection or who finds using apps and technology challenging. We tested out just how easy the Voxblock was to use. I gave my eight year old no prompting and asked her to see if she could get a book to work. Check out the video below:
For those not confident with technology or adults with visual impairments or additional needs, using smartphones, tablets, or even “smart” speakers to enjoy audiobooks can be frustrating or even impossible. That’s where Voxblock offers a breath of fresh air.
Originally designed with children in mind, Voxblock’s intuitive, tactile design and screen-free experience make it surprisingly perfect for those who struggle with technology, especially adults who don’t have experience with newer forms of tech. In this post, we’ll explore why Voxblock might just be the best simple audiobook player for adults, its benefits, and important considerations before buying.

Why Voxblock Works for Adults
Simplicity is key for many adults who find modern tech overwhelming. Voxblock offers an audiobook experience that’s straightforward, reliable, and completely screen-free. Here’s why it’s ideal:
1. No App, No Setup, No Stress
Many audiobook devices require app downloads, accounts, syncing via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and ongoing software updates. Voxblock eliminates all of that. There is:
- No app to install or learn
- No Wi-Fi needed for playback
- No accounts or passwords to remember
Just insert a physical book block and the story begins. How this differs from other audio players like Yoto and Toniebox is that the book data is stored on the block not in the cloud where the character or card is used primarily to download content to the device.

2. Tactile, Easy-to-Use Design
With large physical blocks to insert and simple, large buttons for control the Voxblock is refreshingly low-tech. The controls are:
- Minimal power, volume and chapter buttons – they’re texturally great with raised symbols and different sizes for different functions
- You get feedback from the buttons so you know they have been pressed
- Designed to respond well to limited dexterity
These features make Voxblock a great choice for those with arthritis, cognitive impairments or low vision.

3. No Screen Means Less Frustration
Screens can be disorienting or inaccessible for people with sight loss or neurological conditions. Voxblock doesn’t have a screen, so there are no touch controls, no menus, and no fiddly navigation. Audiobooks are selected by physically inserting a block with embedded audio. That’s it.
4. Durable and Portable
Voxblock is compact, light, and sturdy. It can be easily carried around the home or outdoors. Whether a user wants to listen in bed, in the kitchen or outside, it can go with them. The optional bumper case adds grip and protection. Personally, whatever audio player we have we always go for a protective cover.
5. Ideal for Sight-Impaired Users
Because Voxblock works through physical interaction, those with partial or complete sight loss don’t need to rely on visual prompts to operate it. Users can:
- Identify book blocks by label or touch (using stickers or braille tape)
- Insert and remove them with confidence
- Control playback with the buttons easily
This independence is empowering. I have no doubt that if my Nan was still with us I would have purchased her a Voxblock.

Key Benefits of Voxblock for Adults
Encourages Lifelong Learning and Relaxation
Audiobooks offer rich mental stimulation and emotional comfort. For adults who struggle with reading print due to vision, dyslexia, cognitive fatigue or other need, audio stories provide an accessible and enjoyable alternative.
Great for Daily Routines
Voxblock fits easily into daily life. It’s ideal for:
- Morning or evening relaxation
- Listening during household tasks
- Companion during quiet moments or rest periods – helping with loneliness
Safe for Use in Care Homes or Hospitals
Because it doesn’t rely on internet connections or screens, Voxblock is safe for use in healthcare settings, including dementia care environments. It also helps caregivers provide entertainment that doesn’t require monitoring or troubleshooting.
Having to be in unfamiliar settings such as a hospital or respite care can be very scary. Having familiar stories to enjoy can give a sense of comfort.
Audio
Voxblock delivers sound suitable for small to medium sized rooms. However, the best quality sound I’ve found comes when you use headphones with the Voxblock.
What to Consider Before Buying Voxblock for an Adult
While Voxblock has many advantages, here are a few things to consider.

Growing Audiobook Library
The Voxblock library is expanding, but it’s still relatively small compared to Audible or CD-based collections. Most titles are aimed at children and young teens, but adult-friendly classics are being introduced. Excitingly, Voxblock can see the benefits of their player for adults and are actively looking to expand into further adult audiobooks.
New titles should be arriving later into Summer – I’ll keep you updated. For now you’ll find classics such as Emma and The Great Gatsby and Terry Pratchett to Tolstoy!
You can check the Voxblock library to see what’s available.
Cost Considerations
Voxblock player currently costs £49.99 (bumper case and headphones are purchased separately). This makes it one of the least expensive players around when compared to Yoto and Toniebox. Each book block is an additional purchase, but there are bundle deals available. Books are around the standard price for audiobooks. If gifting the player to a loved one consider starting them off with 2-3 book blocks to get the going.

How to Introduce Voxblock
- Unbox it Together: The setup is easy (make sure it’s charged and hold down the triangle/ play button), but a shared first session helps build confidence. With the ease of start up it genuinely gives you the feel of accessibility.
- Label Blocks Clearly: Use large print, colour-coded stickers, or tactile markers if distinguishing between blocks would be challenging. Make sure to add anything to the front of the block and not on the back of the block which comes into contact with the player.
- Create a Listening Spot: Place the Voxblock in a quiet, comfortable area with access to a charger. Lots of people may want to move the player around with them but for some it may be a good idea to put next to their favourite chair that they sit in so it’s ready to go.
- Volume Control: The volume control has a plus and minus embossed button. Make sure to show where these are. Headphones may help and we found the sound quality improved with headphones.
- Encourage Regular Use: Suggest listening while having tea, during rest periods, or before bed. Making a habit with the Voxblock will help embed stories and relaxation into a daily pleasure. My Grandad always had a cuppa and a biscuit when Countdown came on. Make Voxblock part of a routine.
If you’re a carer or family member, check in periodically to rotate book blocks and suggest new stories. Make time to enjoy a little book talk together and let them tell you about what they’re listening to.
