What Do I Think of the Yoto Club Changes?

These are just my thoughts so please do drop a message in comments if your thoughts vary.

Explorer Yoto Club

Firstly, I’m really pleased to see an ‘entry level’ option in the Explorer Club option. For those new to Yoto especially, this is a great way to boost the amount of digital cards you have access to. The Yoto Original cards are great cards that my daughter loves. They’re often the factual cards that have great educational value – find out more here.

I’m interested to see how many cards Yoto may add to the Yoto Originals series in future. Will this be a resource that continues to grow and benefit children as they become older and make you want to continue the subscription price long term. Further details on what ‘new and exclusive’ and the ‘offers and discounts’ terms mean will also help to understand the value of this package further.

To the left is a Yoto mini player in a pink jacket and to the right a Yoto mini player in a yellow jacket. Both mini players have a Little Leaders Yoto card and infront of the players are the rest of the our planet cards.

Collector or Collector Plus Yoto Club?

As you can see from the comparison table above there is very little difference between these two plans except for the price and the number of credits you receive.

Here in the UK the new Yoto Club will cost an extra £50 to go for Collector+ rather than Collector. So, is it worth it?

Below are two tables. One that takes the subscription price and divides by the yearly number of credits and the other shows the price minus the ‘Explorer’ Club price and then divided by the number of credits in a year. This gives you a rough idea of the value.

Direct Yoto Club Subscription Comparison

UK Comparison
(just credits)
CollectorCollector+
Yearly price£69.99£119.99
Yearly Yoto Credits1224
Price per credit£5.83£4.80

Yoto Club Subscription Comparison Minus Explorer Cost

UK Comparison
(credits minus Explorer cost)
CollectorCollector+
Yearly price minus Explorer cost£40£90
Yearly Yoto Credits1224
Price per credit£3.33£3.75

Yoto Cards are usually £5.99, £7.99 and £9.99 for non Yoto Originals. Therefore both plans give you a saving on cards. Especially when the average price is usually £7.99.

Often with Yoto the more lengthy stories for older children are priced higher; £7.99 and more often £9.99. I’ve recently seen some at £12.99 (I think these will become a two credit cost). Therefore if you have a child who likes these types of lengthier cards then you are going to benefit from getting the Collector or Collector+ Yoto Club as you will be making a significant saving on each card that you would normally purchase.

As to whether to go for Collector or Collector+ I think this will really depend upon how many new cards you are wanting to purchase for your Yoto Player or Yoto Mini. There are lots of options for free content also. Check out this post for more details.

Should I Spend my Yoto Credits Now or Save Them?

I for one am delighted to see changes have been made to the Yoto Club. I had been feeling quite disillusioned by the Yoto Club for a while but had stuck with it hoping for change. Change is coming! From the 17th September 2024 there will now be 3 different options of Yoto Club to join.

One question I’ve been pondering as an existing member is whether I’m better off spending my credits I already have now or waiting until the switch over. My answer is – it depends what cards I want.

In this post Yoto explain how the credit system is going to change. They explain how generally one single card will cost one credit but they have alluded to some single cards being a cost of two credits. I for one am thrilled to hear that the one card equals one credit is being removed as I’ve mentioned in previous posts that the value of multipacks had been poor. An eight card pack could cost you eight credits when in reality was only worth around £22.50 for a Yoto Club member; bad value for money!

Therefore, in light of what Yoto have said. If there is a ‘single’ card in the Yoto Club that you would like then I would use any credits you have now to purchase that card as you run the risk of it switching to two credits. Although, I do think that Yoto will base two credits on cost of cards and therefore think this is likely to be for more expensive single cards.

Yoto Free Shipping

For free shipping when buying with Club Credits, the original value of the card will count towards the threshold. Original Yoto Club members will get no threshold free shipping until there plan is due for renewal.
