There’s a new box in town! Toniebox 2 promises to be everything the previous Toniebox 1 was and more. If you want a direct comparison between the two Toniebox players then check out this post. In this post I’m going to go through my first impressions of our Toniebox 2 as well as the new functionality of game play. Specifically, I’m going to tell you more about Tonieplay Disney Quiz game.

Toniebox 2 Review – First Impressions

Toniebox 2 let me tell you all. First impressions – I love the squishy feel of the Toniebox 2 – if you have a child who enjoys sensory textures then this will surely appeal. It also makes it ideal for really little ones.

We also adore the colour. We purchased Tropical Teal and it’s super vibrant. You can also get Cloud Pink, Sky Blue, Moon Grey and of course Sunset Red.

Charging Cable USB C – Mini!

The charging cable is tiny! This is so that the box can be suitable for 1 year + but as long as you charge it away from little ones you can use an alternative USB C cable that’s longer. Check the ‘bulk’ on the USB C end if you use a different cable as the charging point is sunken quite far back into the device. The original Toniebox 1 had a custom charging base so an upgrade to USB C is very welcomed.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Well there isn’t a camera but the rest is true. We love the new light feature. I really didn’t expect this feature to be a significant upgrade or benefit to us yet it’s so pretty and gives such a gentle, warming glow. Again, sensory seekers are going to love this one.

Setup Toniebox 2 in Advance

There is plastic film around the Toniebox 2 but you can still remove that – set it all up and repackage minus the plastic ready to gift. Setting up players before you gift them is always my top tip for any player. We found the player quick to set up but it’s always much trickier if you have little helpers when it comes to any tech set up!

Tonieplay Disney Quiz Game

I thought the Tonieplay may be a bit young for us – daughter is now 9 – however we’ve purchased the Disney Quiz game and we LOVE it. I took it round to my sister’s house for us to play together🤣 we’re both in our 40s! There’s a lot of Disney love there and it didn’t disappoint.

I like that the Disney Quiz game can be played alone or played collaboratively rather than competitively. Harmonious game play is so much more fun if you’ve got children (and in our case – adults) who get a little too competitive.

Child Friendly Instructions

Initially, I was a little sceptical about the instructions that came with the game. I’d read them and there was a little ambiguity with what I thought may need to be done. However, I need not have worried as the game play works in a way that carefully guides you through exactly what you need to do at every stage. This is such a clever idea and very much made my daughter feel empowered playing the game right from the start.

Disney Quiz Replayability

Replayability – I’ve definitely made up a word there, but you know what I mean. Is it a one trick wonder or is their longevity to the game!?  There are over 500 questions on the Disney game and you only need to get 7 correct to reach the castle so there is quite a lot of playability. I’d liken it to Trivial Pursuit in that some people (like my cousin) can remember every question they’ve ever heard and people like me who can’t remember what the answer was to the question that just got asked 😉.

Tonieplay Game Resale

An additional thought. The pieces for the game are very sturdy so I do feel that resale of these Tonieplay games will fetch a reasonable return just like the character still do now.

Toniebox 2

The game feature ‘Tonieplay’ really does make it more than just a story box now and how we’ve interacted with it is more like a boardgame. You still get the audio features that you’ve come to expect and love from the original Toniebox story box but Tonieplay has taken it to another level. Yet again we see an audio player which is so simple to use.

Toniebox 2 Price – Is it Worth It?

There’s a relatively small increase in price for the Toniebox 2 but you will need to also purchase the Tonieplay Controller and just like Tonie Characters each Tonieplay Game is additional. It’s certainly best to look at the bundle deals available when you initially purchase as these make good savings. We made use of the bundle offer. For me, if I were looking at purchasing a Toniebox I would opt for the Toniebox 2 with it’s added features. Do I think that the player is worth the price tag? Absolutely! Toniebox 2 Considerations & Tips

If you’re used to the Toniebox 1 then it’s worth baring in mind that the Tonie characters and games don’t play straight away like they did for Toniebox 1 (it used to download in the background before whilst playing immediately). Now it has to fully download BEFORE it starts playing.

Pre-download Content

I’d make sure you pre-download before giving to your kiddos. What do I mean by this? You don’t need to take Tonie Characters out of their packaging. Just place them on top of the player in their packaging and let them download to your player. That way your children still get the excitement of opening their characters but when they place them on the Toniebox 2 they will start playing straight away.

The length of time it takes for a character or game to download will depend upon the file size and your WiFi.

I’ve had a problem with one Tonie character so far not downloading. It did in the end but I had to redo set up. I’ve heard rumblings of others having similar problems and it being a known issue for tonies…I’ll keep you posted on this as I go through the rest of our Tonie character collection. I’ve done lots more any that one has been the only issue so far so I’m wondering if whatever happened has now been resolved.

I’ve still got a Paw Patrol and Gabby Dollhouse game to test out so I’ll make sure to add on my thoughts for those when I do. Don’t forget you only need one Tonieplay Controller.
