January Tonies: Paw Patrol, Sleepy Sheep, Irish Tales & Animals from Africa

This blog post will give you a little information about each new January Tonies character or Clever Pocket Tonie as well as resources or ideas that you can use to enhance the enjoyment and learning experience.

Paw Patrol: Jungle Pups: Chase, Marshall and Skye

There’s going to be some very excited Paw Patrol fans for the start of 2025 with release of not one, not two but THREE Paw Patrol characters to the Paw Patrol collection. These are Paw Patrol: Jungle Pups with the characters Chase, Marshall and Skye.

Not sure what Paw Patrol: Jungle Pups is then let me explain. The original Paw Patrol is mainly set in Adventure Bay. Paw Patrol: Jungle Pups is a special spin-off or themed series where the pups go on adventures in jungle environments.

It focuses on jungle-themed rescues and introduces new characters and vehicles designed for jungle terrain. In the jungle locations challenges and scenarios include rescuing animals or navigating through dense forests and rivers.

Each Tonie is approximately 45 minutes long with songs and stories. You can find out more about individual characters using the buttons below:

Small World Play

We love to use Tonie characters in small world play set ups and the Paw Patrol stories are perfect ones to act out stories. We often get extra characters for this type of play from the My Busy Books Story Books. There’s a couple of Paw Patrol ones here and here. I think these are great value sets and are ideal for home or out and about.

Irish Tales Tonie Character

The Irish Tales Tonie is a captivating addition to the Worldwide Tales series, designed to immerse young listeners in the rich tapestry of Irish folklore.

This is the second one to join the Worldwide Tales series and the first, West African Tales Tonie, is probably one of our most listened to Tonie characters in 2024!

Irish Tales collection features enchanting stories filled with music, myths, and magic, introducing children to a world of giants, goddesses, fairies, talking animals, and wise salmon.

The tales included are “The King Of The Birds,” “The Hound Of Ulster,” “Larry Lynchy,” “The Salmon Of Knowledge,” and “The Enchantment Of Sadhbh,” each narrated by skilled storytellers who bring these ancient legends to life. I don’t know any of these stories but love folklore so can’t wait to get acquainted with these.

With a running time of approximately 68 minutes, this Irish Tales Tonie is suitable for children aged 4 and up and great value.

Irish Tales Activity Ideas

  • Create a Storytelling Circle: Encourage children to gather in a circle and take turns retelling their favorite Irish tale from the Tonie. This activity promotes listening skills and helps develop their ability to recall and narrate stories. Don’t worry if there’s only one child – get the toys to join in the circle!
  • Craft Irish Folklore Characters: Provide art supplies for children to create their own representations of characters like fairies, giants, or the wise salmon from the stories. This hands-on activity fosters creativity and a deeper connection to the tales. You could use simple materials such as paper and crayons or introduce clay.
  • Irish Music and Dance Session: Introduce traditional Irish music and teach simple dance steps. Connecting the rhythmic elements of the stories to real-life cultural expressions can enhance their appreciation of Irish heritage.
  • Nature Walk and Myth Exploration: Organise a nature walk where children can explore local flora and fauna, drawing parallels to the natural elements featured in the Irish tales. Discuss how nature plays a significant role in folklore and storytelling.

The Sleepy Sheep – Lullabies from the Meadow Tonie

The Sleepy Sheep – Lullabies from the Meadow Tonie is a soothing addition to the Sleepy Friends series (do check out the cutest bunny!), crafted to create a tranquil bedtime atmosphere for children.

This latest edition to the series features a collection of gentle melodies blended with nature sounds, designed to help little ones wind down and drift off to sleep. If your little one enjoys sounds at bedtime check out my blog post on binaural beats that can support ADHD, help improve focus and reduce anxiety.

With a running time of approximately 140 minutes, The Sleepy Sheep – Lullabies from the Meadow Tonie offers an extensive selection of calming soundscapes suitable for children aged 3 and up. I love that there is such an extended time as we all know that getting little ones to sleep can take a lot longer than anyone thinks! The hand-painted, magnetic figure is both a charming collectible and a functional tool in promoting peaceful slumber.

Activities for Sleepy Sheep

To enhance the bedtime experience with the Sleepy Sheep Tonie, consider incorporating the following activities:

  1. Bedtime Yoga: Introduce simple, child-friendly yoga poses to help relax the body and mind before sleep. Play the Sleepy Sheep Tonie in the background to create a serene environment during the session. You can get lots of yoga idea from Cosmic Kids Yoga.
  2. Nature Sound Identification: As you listen to the Tonie, encourage your child to identify the different nature sounds incorporated into the lullabies, such as birdsong or flowing water. This can be both a calming and educational activity.
  3. Create a Sleepy Sheep Night Light: Engage in a craft activity where you and your child create a DIY night light, using battery operated tea lights, inspired by the Sleepy Sheep. This personalized touch can make bedtime more inviting and comforting. Here’s a couple of lantern ideas – one for Lunar New Year or Chinese Lantern Festival and the others great for Autumn.
  4. Bedtime Storytelling: After listening to the lullabies, encourage your child to create their own short bedtime story featuring the Sleepy Sheep. This fosters creativity and provides a gentle transition to sleep. What I would say is you know your child – if this type of activity is likely to get them excited maybe save it for the daytime!
  5. Relaxing Bath Time: Incorporate the soothing melodies from the Sleepy Sheep Tonie during bath time to create a calming pre-bedtime routine, helping your child unwind and prepare for sleep.

That’s all the new January Tonies 2025 releases for Tonie Characters but there’s one final release of a pack of Clever Tonies…

Animals of Africa Clever Pocket Tonies

The Animals of Africa Tonie set is an exciting addition to the Clever Pocket Tonies series, designed to educate and entertain young animal enthusiasts. Guided by explorer Quinn, this Tonie takes listeners on an adventurous journey across Africa, introducing them to majestic creatures such as lions, giraffes, hippos, elephants, and gorillas.

The set includes four separate Clever Pocket Tonies – Adventurous Lions, Gentle Giraffes, Mighty Hippopotamuses, and Connected Gorillas – each with a running time of approximately 25 minutes, totaling around 100 minutes of engaging content. You get the full set. Suitable for children aged 5 and up, this Tonie set provides an immersive educational experience, combining storytelling with fascinating animal facts as well as a quiz on each.

Animals of Africa Ideas

  • African Animal Mask Crafting: Encourage children to create masks representing the animals featured in the Tonie. This hands-on activity fosters creativity and helps them connect with the stories.
  • Animal Movement Game: Organise a game where children mimic the movements of African animals, such as stomping like elephants or stretching like giraffes. This promotes physical activity and understanding of animal behaviors. If you really want to get the giggling started then get them to say an animal and you have to do the movement. This one is always a crowd pleaser!
  • Habitat Diorama Project: Guide children in creating a diorama of an African habitat, placing the animals they’ve learned about in their natural environments. This enhances spatial awareness and ecological understanding.
  • Storytelling Session: Encourage children to narrate their own adventure stories featuring the animals from the Tonie, promoting imagination and narrative skills. We always like props when storytelling. Sets such as this one would be ideal. Why no record your stories and add them to a Creative Tonie!

Well what an exciting January Tonies update we’ve had! Do come and share your ideas in our Facebook group for how you use your Tonies.
