Booming Genre: Graphic Novels
Graphic novels are big right now and graphic novels for kids are booming. I feel incredibly lucky that my daughter is of an age to be completely benefiting from this wonderful genre. She adores graphic novels – a comic strip in the form of a book.
Many publishing houses are bringing new graphic novels to the shelves. For my daughter her love came from reading The Phoenix Magazine that we subscribe to weekly. David Fickling Books publish completed works from The Phoenix and I think we’ve read nearly all of them!

☃️Beano Betty and the Yeti: A Monstrous Mess Interview with an 8 Year Old
Q: Beano Betty and Yeti: A Monstrous Mess — what can you tell us about this one?
A: It’s really funny. It has different seasons, each with a different colour.
Q: What do you mean by that?
A: In spring, the season’s colour is green. In summer, it’s yellow. In autumn, it’s orange. And in winter, it’s a kind of bluey-white.
Q: So does that mean the book goes through a full year?
A: Yes, it does.
Q: What happens in the story?

InvestiGATORS Yoto Cards – Original & Take the Plunge

I was particularly interested in how the graphic novel books – InvestiGATORS – would work as an audiobook. My 8 year old loves them! You get the words from the book but narrated to explain the setting and what’s happening in the pictures.
It actually works very well! Yoto seem to be introducing a few of these stories with full casts to read them. It gives a brilliantly dynamic read that truly engages. Have you tried the InvestiGATORS yet – what did you think?
You’ll find out more in our YouTube video below:
